I went out to do the strip by the driveway and ended up doing the whole front. The roots come out in one piece, which I honestly didn't expect — every other thing I've tried snaps them at the surface. My knees were not involved at any point.
Two lumbar surgeries means kneeling is finished for me, so the garden had been losing for about three years. Standing up and using my boot changes the whole equation. Did a section a day, and the thistle along the fence is gone at the root.

I'm 6'4" so there's a slight lean rather than fully upright, but compared with kneeling it isn't remotely close. No back ache after an hour. Would happily take a longer shaft option if one ever exists.
